This Means War

No.

I absolutely adored this movie and already consider it a personal favorite, however when asked if I’d recommend it to the population at large I’d lean towards no because the level of violence may turn away female viewers looking for a standard rom-com and the romance may turn away male viewers looking for a standard action flick.

The Grey

No.

Even though the execution of this survival thriller is above average (music, performances, editing, all top notch), I still found myself… disengaged.

War Horse

No.

Spielberg’s latest period piece is so old-fashioned and stuffy that it’s unenjoyable at best and unwatchable at worst.

Immortals

No.

This movie has a lot going for it (distinct style, gratifying action) but it lacks the emotional resonance required to make it truly memorable.

In Time

No.

A clever concept is squandered in this science fiction allegory that could have been extremely effective given the current socioeconomic climate, but instead lacks both action and subtlety.

The Thing

No.

While technically a prequel, this Thing feels more like a superfluous rehash; its existence at all is unwarranted when compared to the far superior John Carpenter’s The Thing.

Colombiana

No.

Zoe Saldana’s talents as a femme fatale are squandered in this pedestrian actioner that does nothing that hasn’t been done before (and better).

Final Destination 5

No.

As with its predecessors, the truly horrific deaths are creative and fun but they are held together by laughable acting and a decade old storyline.

Fright Night

No.

Colin Farrell owns the screen when given the opportunity, but instead of playing to his strengths and focusing on suspense, the film spends too much time fixated on the zaniness that usually accompanies the last few minutes of a vampire flick.
