Sacha Baron Cohen throws every possible type of humor at the wall to see what sticks… unfortunately, that isn’t all that much.

Great performances, fun characters, engaging story, top-notch special effects, mind-blowing action sequences: ASSEMBLE!

Guy Pearce is thoroughly entertaining in this Escape From New York / Die Hard-hybrid, and I’d love to see this character again in something more substantial, but this one is destined for the bargain bin.

Shakespeare would refer to it as “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

I was overwhelmed by how underwhelming it was (in every possible respect).

While I still have many reservations (slow plotting to start, it’s a fantasy etc.), overall I did find myself enjoying this old fashioned adventure film filled with state of the art special effects.

One truly spectacular sequence aside, this ill-conceived action film “starring” active duty Navy SEALs is tone deaf: never deciding whether it wants to bask in the awesomeness that is the SEALs or wallow in solemnness over the perils of war.

I absolutely adored this movie and already consider it a personal favorite, however when asked if I’d recommend it to the population at large I’d lean towards no because the level of violence may turn away female viewers looking for a standard rom-com and the romance may turn away male viewers looking for a standard action flick.

The ‘found footage’ format has been given a new lease on life with this fast-paced and engrossing tale of teenagers who develop telekinesis.

Even though the execution of this survival thriller is above average (music, performances, editing, all top notch), I still found myself… disengaged.
